With past experience in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, Johna has been teaching Biomedical Science and Allied Health for 12 years. She holds instructor certification in Civilian First Aid, CPR and AED, BLS for healthcare providers, CPR/AED for professional rescuers, Emergency Medical Responder, Wilderness First aid, and Stop the Bleed. Johna is the PH Medical Reserve Unit coordinator, CERT team medic and trainer. She designs, coordinates, and conducts interagency emergency drills to integrate professional emergency responders, law enforcement and community volunteers.
Johna focuses on breaking down complex medical jargon and concepts into easy to digest ideas for students and lay people to facilitate learning of specialized life saving skills. As a Krav Maga Instructor, Range Safety officer, and capable firearms handler she also can dovetail her medical skill set with people wanting a more complete self protection package.
Currently a Paramedic, Senior Field Training Officer at UT Health EMS Service, and a clinical faculty member at The School of EMS, Paul spent 18 years in Law enforcement in the UK. During his tenure he was an operational member, instructor, and tactical medic for the Elite Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorist division in London. Paul’s extensive background in care under fire medicine earns him invitations to teach crisis first aid and emergency response nationwide. Paul is an accomplished lifetime martial artist and Krav Maga and Firearms instructor with extensive experience in personal protection. Paul’s dedication to instructing a diverse population, including adults of all ages and experience levels, women, teens and children in first aid, self-protection and firearms safety has earned him invitations to teach and conduct seminars all over the country.
Paul focuses on bridging the gap between professional EMS and Civilian rescuers to provide the most effective prehospital care for victims of trauma and emergent illnesses.
